Kindergarten Art is a real adventure!
Students spend the year delving into the theme "Discover...Art Is All Around Us."
The Content Standards include four areas of artistic and creative learning:
1. Use various art media, techniques and processes to communicate ideas.
2. Understand the visual arts in relation to aesthetics, history, and culture.
3. Analyze the characteristics and merits of a work of art.
4. Explore ways that art is connected to other things we learn about.
These areas warrant building vocabulary, learning questioning strategies, exploring simple art media and examining ways that art is connected to other things about which they learn. During this year, connections are made between Art and Science.
Our curriculum consecutively builds on knowledge and skills gained each year so this foundational year is very important.
At the close of each lesson, the students write a brief reflection about the materials they used, ideas they shared or concepts they mastered.
Please visit our Kindergarten gallery as often as time permits. The gallery will be filled with sample work from each of our Kindergarten classes.
